Bryan Adams pays tribute to Terry Fox with new single

30.08.2026

With ‘The Ballad Of Terry Fox’, Bryan Adams pays tribute to one of the most iconic figures in Canadian history. Terry Fox lost a leg to cancer as a teenager and, in 1980, embarked on his legendary Marathon of Hope: an attempt to run across Canada and raise money for cancer research.

In the song, Adams tells the story of Fox’s extraordinary journey. Fox ran for 143 days and covered more than 5,000 kilometres before being forced to stop near Thunder Bay after the cancer had spread to his lungs. He died the following year at the age of 22, but his Marathon of Hope went on to inspire an enduring international movement in support of cancer research.

Fox’s story also made a lasting impression on Adams at the time. Just a year older than Fox, the singer was touring Canada himself in 1980. ‘The Ballad Of Terry Fox’ is featured in Run Terry Run, the new documentary by Sean Menard. Menard also directed the music video, which combines Adams’ song with footage of Fox and his historic journey.

Bryan Adams brings his Roll with the Punches Tour to the AFAS Dome on 15 October 2026. Watch the video for ‘The Ballad Of Terry Fox’ above.
